Double Philadelphia

There is no doubt that, despite the easing of most of the restrictions imposed because of Covid 19, it will yet be some time before normal service is resumed. There is an understandable reluctance to completely cast off the shackles inflicted upon our day to day lives because of the pandemic.

Numbers at Masonic gatherings have in general been much reduced. Some feel confident to return to such social gatherings, whilst others hold the view that it is too soon to risk it. It is an individual matter and both approaches must be respected.
Members of Philadelphia RAM
This “new normal” was amply illustrated at the meetings of the Philadelphia lodges at Preston Masonic Hall.

The 44th regular lodge meeting of Philadelphia Lodge of Installed Mark Commanders No 1646 attracted far fewer attendees than would normally be the case, although the fact that it was on the eve of the Provincial RAM and Mark meetings may also have had a bearing.

Edwin Scofield was proclaimed by director of ceremonies Phillip Watson as Worshipful Commander for the present period.

It fell to Bill Swindlehurst, in the guise of director of ceremonies, to proclaim Alan Eastham as Master for the current year and also declare him as master elect for the ensuing year.
Bill Bruce was once again declared as treasurer for the coming year.

Following the formalities of the meetings a three-course meal, celebrating the proclaimation of both the Commander and Master, was enjoyed.

This opportunity to get out of the house and catch up with friends from around the province proved a delight for those who had attended. Hopefully the booster jabs will lead to a reduction in the transmission and cases of this horrible pestilence, whilst inspiring a renewed confidence to share the company of others. Time will tell.

I for one look forward to the time, and surely it will come, that a mention of Covid does not crop up in every conversation.
